The first door on the left of the stairway leads to the Captain’s Quarters. The furnishings in this room consist of a saddle back design chest decorated with linenfold panels 16th century. This would have been used to store armour while saddles could be placed on it; a carved oak bed with elaborately turned bedposts with carved testers and back of a later date, is early 17th century. The needlework bed cover is also 17th century. The painting of “Dogs attacking a bear” is 15th to 17th century from the School of Sayders.
Hanging on the walls are Lobster-tail Helmets complete with face guard, a Breast-Plate from a pike man’s suit of half armour, an arm defence inlaid with gold, an iron stock for confinement of the legs, a steel bow, steel horse bits and a 15th century crossbow. This room has a finely decorated ceiling and has a garderobe close by.
