Evening Entertainments

Bunratty Castle, Knappogue Castle and Dunguaire Castle host memorable Medieval Banquets, where you can enjoy quality food and entertainment, once the preserve of the nobility who resided in these fortresses. The lifestyle of medieval Ireland is recaptured at the Castles.

In the 1960's there was a lot of emigration from the west coast of Ireland. Each year more and more young people left to find work abroad. In 1963 the idea it was decided to put the unused castles in the region to practical use and create attractions which would bring tourists to the Shannon Region; creating much needed employment.

Today the banquet events attract over 120,000 visitors each year and have become the highlight of many people’s visit to Ireland and the Shannon Region.

Bunratty Castle Medieval Banquet

Bunratty Castle was the first such venture, the castle was restored by Lord Gort (an anglo Irish nobleman) with assistance from Shannon Development (the Regional tourism body of the day) and the world famous Bunratty Medieval Banquet was born. Find out more about the Bunratty Castle Banquet.

Knappogue Castle Banquet

Knappogue Castle was then restored by the Andrew's Family who very kindly allowed Shannon Heritage to use the Castle as a second venue for the growing numbers of tourist who wished to attend a banquet. From the outset quality was the objective. Professional producers, voice trainers and choreographers were employed and young Irish singers and musicians were trained to entertain to the highest standards. Learn more about Knappogue.

Dunguaire Castle Banquet
