“Egg-citing” Easter event at Craggaunowen

To mark the opening of Craggaunowen 'The Living Past Expierence', which tells the story of the arrival of the Celts in Ireland, Shannon Heritage has organised the Easter Bunny to make a special guest appearance there on Easter Sunday, March 23rd at 1pm.

The event will be a fun-filled day for all the family and the Easter Bunny has promised to give away hundreds of Easter eggs to mark the end of the Lenten period and the chocolate famine!

A family fun day is promised with children being offered the opportunity to enjoy the bouncing castle and practise their bouncing skills for the Easter bunny. Traditional musicians will be on hand to lend a festive atmosphere. There will be a puppet show featuring Easter chickens and bunnies, and a magic show, always a family favourite. A traditional story teller will be on hand to regale visitors with stories from times gone by.

While walking around the park visitors can experience how the Celts lived, fought, farmed, and hunted. “Caomhan the Celt” will be there on the day to show visitors his Crannog (lake dwelling) where he lived, explain how the Celts hunted and cooked at the outdoor cooking site. Visitor will see the resident wild boar, the Iron Age Roadway and Ring fort. The Celts were renowned seafarers, St. Brendan the Navigator built a leather hulled boat and set sail in search of Hy-Brasil an island he had seen in a vision. Visitors can see a replica of the boat, built by Tim Severin, who sailed it to Greenland to prove that Brendan might have in fact discovered America as is claimed.

The Easter event will take place on Easter Sunday, March 23rd from 1pm-5pm, with last admissions at 4p.m. Family tickets to Craggaunowen available.
