Before your Visit

We want to ensure that your party leaves King John's Castle feeling enthused, enlightened and above all entertained! Therefore, we ask that you make yourself aware of the information below prior to your visit.

Education guests are admitted to the Exhibition in groups of 30 students or less. If your party consists of more than 30 students please have them arranged into 2 groups prior to leaving your school so that we can get you on your way as soon as you arrive.

Accessibility & Allergies

King John's Castle is a fully accessible building and welcomes groups with special needs. It is our aim that all of our visitors’ requirements are fully met. If any of your party has specific needs which we can assist with we would be delighted to discuss these with you in advance of your visit, to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit for everyone.

If a member of your group has an allergy that we should be aware of but which you did not inform us of when you were booking your tour, please email us with details prior to your visit so we can add the information to your details. It is, however, your responsibility to take any necessary precautions and make any necessary arrangements regarding any allergies.

Arrival

You should arrive onsite at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled visit as advised in your booking confirmation email. Entrance cannot be guaranteed if you arrive earlier or later than this time.  If you are unsure about the time of your exhibition entry please contact us as soon as possible for confirmation If you are likely to be early or you are running late we also request that you contact King John's Castle admissions desk (061 370500).

Your coach will be directed to our coach parking area.  Coach Parking is complimentary, and is located adjacent to King John's Castle. Each coach driver will be provided with a voucher for complimentary refreshments while you do the tour.

We do have some Storage for schools. However, as much as possible should be kept on the bus and just a small rucksack per student is necessary.  We request that schools who have uniforms wear them during the visit to help you identify your students.  On arrival to the Exhibition entrance you will be briefed and given and necessary information – i.e. Maps, Activities, Worksheets (depending on the tour you have booked). You will also be given the opportunity to use the toilet facilities.  When your group is ready you will be escorted to level 1 where you will begin the King John’s Castle experience.

Entry to the exhibition will be staggered, with only one group of no more than 30 entering at any one time.  Split groups will either be given a specially prepared extension talk until they are ready to enter, or will do an activity/ workshop (if booked).

During the Visit

The information in the exhibition will immerse you and your students in the story of King John's Castle.  Your students will encounter a variety of interactive activities and we encourage every visitor to experience them to the full.

King John's Castle is a self-guided experience.  However, we have resident costumed guides who can reveal the secrets and scandals of castle life if you wish to book them as part of the tour  Should you require assistance at any time during your experience please alert a member of our staff who will be able to assist you. It is essential that all pupils remain under the supervision of their teachers at all times during the visit. This includes the exhibition floors, courtyard and towers, shop, café and toilet facilities.  Running is prohibited in all areas.

Lunch Arrangements

King John's Castle is now able to provide a limited amount of covered lunch space for school groups but cannot guarantee the availability of these. We will firstly endeavour to accommodate schools and visitors who give advance notice of their requirements. Alternatively, the courtyards surrounding King John's Castle can be used for students to take lunch (bins are provided for all litter).

King John's Castle Shop

Students are very welcome to visit the retail shop under the supervision of their teachers. There must be no more than 15 pupils from the school/college in the shop at any one time. We have a wide range of merchandise suitable for pocket money budgets and will offer the students an opportunity to purchase an affordable memento of their visit to King John's Castle.

Departure and After Your Visit

Although it will be a shame to see you go, we know that all good things must come to an end. Therefore when you are ready to leave King John's Castle you should notify your coach driver so that he/she is ready for your departure. Souvenir tokens will be given to the teacher for each student in the group to take home as a memento of their visit.

Now that you have visited King John's Castle we would like to know about YOUR experience! We would appreciate it if you would take the time to email us with your feedback. This will help us ensure the highest possible standards of service and quality are offered at King John's Castle. Each month, all teachers/leaders who submit a completed feedback form will be entered into a free draw for a Family pass to King John's Castle.

Thank you for your booking and we look forward to welcoming you and your students to King John's Castle soon!
