King John’s Castle scoops prestigious gong at Irish Travel Industry Awards

ITIC award

The award was collected by Ivan Tuohy General Manager, King John’s Castle who said he was delighted to accept on behalf of a deserving staff at the tourist attraction; “This award is the culmination of a few years of hard work by everyone involved with King John’s Castle and Shannon Heritage. It’s a testament to the increasing popularity of Limerick as a tourist destination, and we’re looking forward to a successful 2017.”

King John’s Castle beat off stiff competition to claim the award, three years since re-opening following a multi-million euro investment which facilitated state-of-the-art interpretive activities and exhibitions, utilising 21st century touch screen technology and 3D models.

Children are amazed by the dazzling array of computer generated animations and as they travel back 800 years. The Education and Activity Room is full of tasks designed to stimulate curious minds.

In the busy courtyard, you will discover a medieval campaign tent, a blacksmiths forge and scenes from a seventeenth century siege. The sights, scenes and sounds of King John’s Castle and its environs all combine to recreate the atmosphere of the era.

The Irish Tourism Industry Awards are organised by the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (ITIC) together with Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland.

They are designed to boost overseas visits and to recognise innovation, excellence and significant contributions in the developing, marketing, selling and delivering of Ireland's visitor experiences at home and overseas.
