Spooky Tricks & Scary Treats - Halloween Fun at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park

A special programme of chilling events with hair raising surprises await at this spooky fun filled bank holiday event, perfect for all the family. To get into the spirit of the season new elements have been added this year to create extra spooky atmosphere including Dr. Frankenstein's Laboratory.  Meet Dr. Frankenstein, the mad professor, who has been trying to bring his man made monster to life. Will he succeed?   Beware....You step into his laboratory at your own risk..... You have been warned..!

Back by popular demand is Halloween Spook Train ride and Hallow Scare Haunted House where ghosts and goblins will appear when you least expect it. Visitors will get an opportunity to come face to face with a ghastly talking head or engage in a mystifying séance. Fearless visitors will also relish the opportunity to descend into the basement of Bunratty Castle to visit the spooky crypt, where a famous blood-sucker lies in his coffin, waiting.

All manner of creepy creatures will be on hand at the Folk Park for visitors to get close to, if they dare! Spooky snakes and scorpions, lizards and owls, and a terrifying tarantula. Children will enjoy free face painting- upon arrival so that trick-or-treating can be at its scariest during the afternoon. Traditional Halloween games such as snap apple and coin bobbing in the company of our wonderful Bean an Ti as well as Captain Jack’s Spooktacular Show, a mix of Halloween songs and dance along with a disco and amazing laser lights display.

An annual favourite returns in the form of the Thriller tribute, a performance of Michael Jackson’s legendary dance routine follows each Captain Jack show.

There’s an array of prizes for the ghastliest girls and boys, and of course a special something on offer for the most ghoulish adult or family costumes too.  The competition will be handled online due to the high volume of entries so remember to tag your child, adult or family pic on our Bunratty Castle & Folk Park Facebook page.  While young spooks are getting into the spirit of things, take some time out to enjoy wonderful treats in the newly opened café and revamped Bunratty Tea Room.

In addition, the Halloween spirit will start a little earlier this year with a brand new Halloween event taking place at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park on Saturday 22nd October. Energetic thrill-seeking sprites, goblins and scary spooks will get the opportunity for some early Halloween fun when the inaugural Nightmare Run, a Halloween themed 5km scary run set on the grounds of Bunratty Castle Folk Park takes place at 7.30pm that evening.

Spooky actors, props and UV paint will be spread out along the 5km route to keep you moving! Your worst nightmares and horrors await you along The Nightmare Run!
